Mechanical Design Engineer/CNC Programmer

Job Information

Design and engineer new consumer products, internal tooling systems, etc in Solidworks environment

Familiar with CNC and manual machining

HSMWorks programming experience a plus

Robotics experience a plus (Fanuc pick and place, vision systems)

Responsible for equipment, work flows, organization

Prototypes new designs utilizing SLA 3D printing

Evaluates, analyzes, and makes proposals on new manufacturing technologies/ equipment.

Evaluates manufacturing processes by designing and conducting experiments; applying knowledge of product design, fabrication, assembly, tooling, and materials; conferring with equipment vendors; soliciting observations and ideas from machinists and operators

Develops new manufacturing processes and fixtures by studying product requirements; researching, designing, modifying, and testing manufacturing methods and equipment; and conferring with equipment vendors

Responsible for the prototype build process and packaging design process

Assists the supply chain team in the selection of raw materials and suppliers

Trains and assists others with manufacturing trials and experiments. Ensures data and lessons learned are properly recorded and acted on

Supports the improvement of lean manufacturing efficiency by analyzing and planning work flow, space requirements, and equipment layout

Assures product and process quality by designing testing methods; testing finished- product and process capabilities; establishing standards; confirming manufacturing process capability (Cpk)

Prepares product and process reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends

Maintains product and process data base integrity

Completes design and development projects by training and guiding operators

Manages lean initiatives at company

Facilities enhancement

Diagnoses problems concerning production equipment (may include PLC, hydraulics, pneumatics, robotics); supervises building and installation of equipment; investigates and recommends solutions for production problems

Recommends and establishes metrics consistent with lean/continuous improvement goals and objectives
Identifies opportunities to implement common processes and best practices from other businesses and industries

Job Requirements

Bachelor’s degree (B. A.) from four-year College or university; or one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience

Knowledge of Microsoft Office, SolidWorks or other CAD program

Qualified candidates must be hands-on

A background in machining is preferred
