|About the Job
As our Research and Development Manager, you will be responsible for managing assigned research and providing technical project leadership and customer relationship management to support the needs of sales, marketing and production. Our ideal candidate will be able to plan and execute new product development projects, manage the daily activities of the Research and Development staff, implement process improvements to the R&D commercialization process, and promote cross-functional knowledge sharing across the following platforms: fudges, caramels and particulates; beverage syrups; low water activity fillings; savory sauces and condiments.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Provide management oversight for projects and programs including product prototypes, shelf life, analyticals, quality audits, cost of quality, quality holds, HACCP, Good
Manufacturing Practices (GMPís) to assure overall objectives are achieved.
Provide leadership and support for R&D innovation initiatives and programs to assure successful transition to product commercialization.
Establish, monitor and prioritize the projects pipeline for the R&D department.
Manage and provide resources for innovation, cost savings, product improvement and
product maintenance initiatives for internal and external accounts.
Serve as the primary R&D liaison for internal departments including Sales, Strategic Procurement, Finance, Production, Quality Assurance, and Project Management.
Maintain contact with Sales, Marketing, Engineering and Production to support business cases for new opportunities and ideation initiatives.
Represent the company at customer and supplier visits, conferences and conventions.
Present research related information.
Analyze capacity required to respond to changing customer demands and develop strategies to ensure the organization can effectively respond.
Develop process and packaging standards that comply with governmental regulations.
Education and/or Experience
Bachelorís Degree in Food Science (Masters preferred) and five years of experience is required. Qualified candidates should also have three to five years of research and development leadership responsibility as a food technologist with project leadership accountability. Previous experience in a production environment as well as sensory analysis experience is necessary.
