Bend Research is seeking a Research Engineer - Biologics with a degree in Chemical Engineering, Bioengineering or similar discipline to design, optimize and scale up mammalian cell culture technologies and processes. The position will involve applying both experimental and model-based approaches to understanding complex biological systems.
An extensive understanding of the physical, engineering, and chemical principles underlying cell biology is required. Direct experience in cell biology, protein expression, cell culture, media development and bioreactor operations applied in a process development environment are desirable. Experience in technology transfer and scale up to manufacturing for mammalian cell culture and harvest processes are also desirable.
Ph.D., M.S. or B.S., or in chemical or bioengineering and 2 years of experience in a biological or engineering research and development setting
Excellent grasp of engineering and biology fundamentals
Demonstrated ability in applying the scientific method to solve complex problems
Comfortable with both hands-on and modeling tasks
Demonstrated technical programming ability
Knowledge of basic statistics
Ability to keep neat and organized experimental records
A sense of humor
The ideal candidate will have experience in the following areas:
Multi-variate statistical methods
Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) packages
Using models to predict behavior of complex systems
Quality by Design (QbD) principles as applied to cell culture processes
