| Job Description | Designs and analyzes new products and improvements to existing products using a compliment of computer aided design software tools. Brainstorms with peers and cross-functional team members to achieve optimum design solutions. Seeks sustainable competitive advantages through innovative designs and patent disclosures. Performs complex tolerance stack analyses and insures that tolerance distribution is reasonable considering the intended manufacturing process capabilities. Creates assembly and detailed three dimensional models and two dimensional drawings to achieve project goals. Provides work direction to designers, draftspersons and product structure specialists. Reviews test plans and helps interpret test results.
Determine and specify component and assembly technical details including geometry, tolerancing, material, heat treating, and finishing within the capabilities of the desired manufacturing processes.
Perform all design calculations using a compliment of analytical tools and formulas.
Perform tolerance stack up analysis and adhere to drafting standards, and material selections.
Use applicable trouble-shooting techniques to resolve product problems.
Analyze product designs to determine the cause of operational failure.
Provide technical advice to less experienced designers, engineers and test lab technicians.
Contribute to test specimen inspection before and after testing, evaluate test progress and make recommendations to resolve unfavorable results.
Assemble and disassemble products and analyze competitive products as necessary.
Provide technical assistance manufacturing, quality and purchasing teams as necessary.
REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor of Science in mechanical or related engineering
Six+ years of applicable product design and development experience.
Proficient with PC based tools such as Microsoft Office Suite.
Proficient with three dimensional modeling software such as SolidWorks, analytical modeling software such as
KissSoft and FEA tools such as ANSYS.
Ability to communicate effectively and appropriately to the intended audience.
Must be detailed oriented.
Self-motivated and able to work well with others in a team environment.
Flexibility and able to effectively adapt to changing conditions and job assignments.
Occasional travel requirements. |
